Designer 101: L.A.M.B.

Love Angel Music Baby

Welcome to a new series I’ve decided to start on here, as the title reads, Designer 101.  I wanted to dedicate a post to each of my favourite designers.  Both as a place to showcase some my favourite pieces from past collections, which never made it on here, because I hadn’t started blogging yet, or had not yet discovered them.  I also wanted to take some time to go through their history, how they came to be and what they specialize in.  This is as much for myself as it is for you, but I like to do research and learn about things I have a great interest in.  I figured, if I’m going to be doing all this research, I mights well put it somewhere.  So, this will be an ongoing project, where I will post a few of these every once in a while.  I think it’s also a great way for me to maintain consistency in blogging frequently on here.  There are many, many designers which I adore and I’m discovering new one’s with each new season, so this will probably go on for years.  I hope you enjoy this idea and maybe learn something too!

One of my first fashion influences ever was Gwen Stefani   I began listening to No Doubt when I was twelve and quickly became obsessed.  The walls of my childhood bedroom were papered with images of Gwen in her signature alternative style, which I adopted, along with a love of red lipstick.  My wardrobe slowly filled with mixed prints, culottes, Doc Martens, grandpa caps & one-shoulder tops, under her influence.  When I was about thirteen, or fourteen she announced that she would be releasing her own fashion line – L.A.M.B. (both a pet name for her loved ones & an acronym made up of her favourite words – love, angel, music & baby).  This happened to coincide with the addition of Teen Vogue to Condé Nast’s roster, in which Gwen was the cover star for the second ever issue.  Her spread was filled with beautiful sun kissed images of her modelling her first collection at a beach house.

I have always admired Gwen for her unapologetic attitude towards personal style, as well as her commitment to her style phases.  As you look through each of her collections you can pinpoint each time in her career, album to album as she looked & dressed exactly like each of these collections during different times.  Gwen is one of the few celebrity designers whom I respect.  It is highly evident from the collections that Gwen designed the clothing, she even wears many of the items herself and has a true passion for style & the fashion industry-having started sewing & making many of her own clothes in high school.  For the most part I find it tacky when celebrities don’t stay in their own lane, lending their name to seemingly anything they are approached on.  I have never felt this about L.A.M.B. & Gwen.

Please let me know what you think of this new series & if you like the current format.  I want to do a short history on fashion houses, what they’re style is & how it has evolved over time & with different designers in charge.  I don’t want to go into too much detail with each collection to avoid being too wordy, so let me know if you have any comments!
