Fashion Hall of Fame
Do you have any pieces, or collections, which despite trends which come and go, or the major changes which fashion undergoes each season, remain favourites and relevant years later? This is a collection of my favourite pieces of all time, ranging from 2006 to 2010. I chose these dates because for one, they have truly stood the test of time and secondly because these were the years I really had my ear to the street (or runway more aptly) of the fashion world. I hope you enjoy this curatorial project I put together. Let me know if you remember any of these looks, or which season/collection you feel the same way about!
Blumarine Spring 2006
Serena Van der Woodsen wore this slinky Blumarine dress in the first season of Gossip Girl, to a brunch (this was my favourite show at the time and one of my greatest fashion inspirations, so prepare for many a reference in this post. I’ve recently started rewatching from the fourth season, where I left off years ago and am determined to finish the series once and for all!). Isn’t it gorgeous. I love the colourful floral details, and how subtle they are for a flower as they are laid over the off white satin, which falls so gorgeously and lace the lace neckline.
Chloé Spring 2006
This collection symbolizes my descent into falling down the rabbit hole of fashion. I remember obsessing over images of this Chloé collection in a Spring issue of Teen Vogue in highschol. I was on March Break with my family in Florida and read the magazine front to back several times, coveting the Chloé Paddington bag collection and the chunky brown leather heels and wedges.
Marc by Marc Jacobs Jacobs Fall 2007
Blair Waldorf (my favourite Gossip Girl character) wore this Marc by Marc Jacobs dress in my favourite ever Gossip Girl episode- the thanksgiving episode from season one. I loved this dress then, the tiers of lace and super short-sixties style dress. I actually made my own dress inspired by this one (how very Jenny Humphrey of me!).
Miu Miu Spring 2008
Quite possibly my favourite collection ever. Miu Miu is always gorgeous and pushing the boundaries of creativity in fashion. These insanely short circus-inspired dresses with bloomers are just perfect though. I still want all of these hanging in my closet.
Marchesa Fall 2008
I adore the colour of this floor length Marchesa gown. Though it looks a bit regal, I’ve seen photos of Taylor Momsen wearing it to an event and it was altered with a spaghetti strap which makes it a bit younger and more modern.
Little fact: I want my wedding dress to be Marchesa, they are just so gorgeous and whimsical.
Rodarte Fall 2008
Despite being avant-garde, this collection is so timeless. I love the idea of the distressed and mixed loose knit cardigans. I think I partly love this Rodarte collection due to it’s resemblance to the character of Sally from my favourite childhood movie, Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas.
Luella Spring 2010
Luella broke my heart when they ceased to design clothes anymore. How perfect is this cupcake dress, covered in yellow tea roses with a heart cut-out neckline? It’s every feminine design element in the perfect dress.
Marchesa Spring 2010
Another gorgeous piece from Marchesa (and the last Gossip Girl piece on the list, worn by Jenny Humphrey in one of the later seasons). Again, I love this mint green colour, combined with he white lace. This is also a bit more toned down for Marchesa, with the shorter hemline and tighter fit.
Miu Miu Spring 2010
As mentioned above, Miu Miu is and always has and will be one of my favourites. I don’t think I will ever love another pair of shoes the way I love the Miu Miu swallow platforms from Spring 2010. These pink platform heels, covered in black swallows, with a large bedazzled swallow on the top of the foot are literal shoe perfection, and I’m a shoe gal (like Carrie Bradshaw).
