rows & flows of angel hair
I’ll be honest, I’m very selfish when it comes to sharing my favourite spots. When I discover a new favourite place I worry about it becoming everyone’s favourite spot and that it will not belong to me anymore. Which is why I’m probably better off being a fashion blogger than a lifestyle blogger. Last Saturday I visited a new hair salon and I’m so excited about my latest discover, I decided to share it here. I’ve never been one to be loyal to a hair salon, sometimes I feel like the only girl in the world without a dedicated stylist. Historically I’ve booked last minute, or made walk-in appointments, but I think I’ve finally learned my lesson with that kind of behaviour.
N15 opened their second location on November 15th of this year, just two weeks after I moved into my new condo. The salon is located conveniently right in the middle between my home & ofice, so I walk by it nearly every single day on my way to & from work. From the street you can see how beautiful the salon is inside, which prompted me to make an appointment. All white marble, gold accents on the mirrors, a floral wall & palm print pillow cases. The service though and quality of haircut is amazing & at great prices! I went to see George – who did the most amazing job with my hair. I have super thick, curly hair, which I wear straight always – unless I curl it with an iron, after blowing it out and straightening. He new exactly what to do with my hair though.
I always have an idea of what I’d like my hair to look like, I see girls with effortless wavy hair, heavy curtain bangs and beautiful face framing layers when their hair is tied up. I told him what I wanted, but he also took the time to look at my hair & face and give his recommendations on cut & styling. I’m always disappointed when hairdressers ask you what you want & give you no feedback on what they think you need. Despite having an idea in my head – it’s nice for a professional who knows hair & face shapes to recommend a great cut for you. I have brought hairdressers photos of Alexa Chung’s hair for the last 9 years, trying to get that signature fringe, or her ombré, or waves. Some have come close, some have been disastrously off (I’m cringing thinking of the time I got dip dyed bleached hair when I brought in a beautiful picture of Alexa’s subtle honey coloured ombré). So, after describing the look I wanted and cutting my bangs, when George said, “it’s almost like Alexa Chung”, this is when I knew he would be my go-to stylist. He knew exactly what I wanted without me having to explicitly tell him – it’s the kind of intuition you want in your hairdresser. Then, when he told me, “I want to give you a French styling” my heart nearly exploded, “kind of wavy, effortless, with some volume”. It was like when you and your best friend become so close you start finishing each other’s sentences. I am obsessed with French girl hair, beauty, style. Brigitte Bardot, Jane Birkin (she’s an honorary French girl, okay), my phone wallpaper is currently the Miss Dior Chérie ad Sofia Coppola directed years ago. George gave me the perfect effortlessly chic French girl look I love, heavy fringe, wispy layers & bouncing waves as you skip down the side of La Seine. I love my new haircut & am so happy I found N15 & George. Toronto ladies, you must go!
