See You Later Alligator

Our final day in Florida was spent in the everglades.  We went out first to Shark Valley, approximately a one hour drive from our hotel in Florida City.  Shark Valley is a unique area where the wildlife, including alligators can crawl up right onto the pathways as there are absolutely no barricades separating pedestrians from the animals’ habitat.  I remember from my childhood alligators lounging in the sun on the tarmac pathways and actually almost tripping over one once.  I was informed on our most recent trip that in the over forty years since the park opened there have been no…

Conversation Heart Key

As I mentioned in my post yesterday the Florida Keys are one of my favourite places to visit while in Florida.  They are such a unique place in America.  Thus far I’ve only been to the keys for day trips, though I’d love to go for a week and spend a few days in each key.  It is about a 2.5 hour drive down to the bottom of Key West and so much to see along the way.  It’s difficult to take it all in in just one day. Many artists are attracted to the keys and having the close concentration of creative…

Snorkeling in Key Largo

Glasses: Chanel Dress: Free People Sandals: River Island I didn’t get around to posting yesterday as it was another long day, so it looks as though I’m two days behind now.  On Wednesday I went out to Key Largo for a day of snorkelling.  Key Largo, being the key closest to mainland Florida is an approximate 45 minute drive from Florida City, where I’ve been staying.  The key boasts the best snorkelling in the keys, with reefs and wrecks, there’s plenty to take in. This was my third time snorkelling and second snorkelling in the keys.  While I love getting a peek into the aquatic…

Party in the City Where the Heat is On

I was so exhausted yesterday I fell asleep early and didn’t get my post up, thus the remainder of the posts will be one day late!  Yesterday was started off by hitting a few thrift stores.  We made it to only two Goodwills and I found only one item at each.  At the first I found a pair of denim shorts, meant to be high-waisted, but as they are too large for me I wear them on my hips.  I don’t have a pair of cut-off’s and these are exactly what I was looking for with a button-up fly.  I nearly…

Everglade

This morning was spent in the Florida Everglades.  We went out to Anhinga Trail and Gumbo Limbo Trail.  I’ve been visiting these trails since I was a small child.  The weather was gorgeous.  The wildlife wasn’t too active today.  We saw a few birds and alligators.  When I was last here two years ago I watched turkey vultures attempt to make off with a photographer’s windbreaker and carry it off into the bush.  They would also pick at alligators who were too busy sunbathing to bother with the antagonizing birds. Following the trek through the Everglades we stopped for milkshakes at the…
