In the FROW
Last night I attended my first ever fashion runway show and now I’m absolutely obsessed. From the moment the lights dimmed and the pounding music came on, to the finale. I feel so addicted, I just want more. I attended the Narces show at Toronto Fashion Week Honestly, I don’t follow Canadian designers. My first thought was that I wanted to go to fashion week, without any specific designer in mind. I had never been before. When I was in university I applied to volunteer, but didn’t end up staying, because they had us sitting around for hours doing absolutely nothing and felt my time could be used better studying at home, or in the library. This was back when the Mishapes were DJing all over fashion week and I was gutted to learn that they were at the after party-I would have stayed had I known!
I weeded out the shows I couldn’t attend due to my schedule and looked through the remaining Instagram accounts of those I could make it to, to choose one to attend. Naces stood out, with her feminine dresses, with a bit of edge to them. Florals, appliqués & tulle. I ended up sitting front row, centre and it was such a great experience.
Toronto Fashion week is on a much smaller scale than the major four, showing over the course of three days, all in one area of town. Yorkville is our posh, fashion neighbourhood, which is where this year’s runway shows were held. We could see a bit of backstage, with models having their makeup done in the centre of Yorkville Village. Before the show you’re welcome to wait in an air conditioned tent before the runway starts. This is how I ended up FROW.
My friend and I had purchased general admission tickets, but went in only five minutes before the show started and the ushers found us two seats for which the people hadn’t shown up. So there I was, in what had to be the best spot on the runway! I’ve included below my favourite pieces from Narces & some pictures of Toronto Fashion Week. Find more on my Instagram Story Highlights.
